#1096 new enhancement/feature request
Add OSD element showing destination_length even when not routing using GPS
Reported by: | xj25vm | Owned by: | KaZeR |
---|---|---|---|
Priority: | minor | Milestone: | version 0.6.0 |
Component: | core | Version: | git master |
Severity: | Keywords: | osd, gps, distance | |
Cc: | shop@… |
Description
It would be useful if either the current "navigation.item.destination_length[named]" or a new element would be able to display the distance between position and destination, when the position doesn't come from a GPS source but is manually set using the "Set as position" in the interface. This would be handy when planning a route, as one could set the position manually, then the destination - and the distance would be shown by the appropriate OSD field. Currently this only works if the position comes from the GPS source.

I agree with Navit not being a route planner. However, seeing as that information is already offered when in navigation mode - I was thinking that if it would be possible to offer it when not navigating as well with little extra effort (I don't know how difficult it would be) - it would actually be a really useful feature. Yes - route planning can be done with other apps as well - but on the road, I use Navit to quickly check places on the map - and being able to tell quickly how far one place is from another is really useful - even in a navigation software.
Personally, I don't see navit as a trip planner, as this can be done on the desktop with better applications or services. But that needs to be discussed: http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Brainstorming#NOT
Anyway, to realize that behaviour IMHO we need just a few modifications, that maybe can be added in the next major release.
