#1117 new enhancement/feature request

New search menu

Reported by: алексей черепанов Owned by: cp15

Description

Navit search procedure is uneasy. Every search starts with Town choose, even if I need find street in the current town. It takes much time while address search on low performance device such as navigator is very slow. I propose make new address search menu where address parts are preset with last search or current position data. Here is a brief manual of navigation program "7 Ways" where this search mode was implemented. Look it for example, please.

An alternative idea is as follows (we may even have a ticket here, but I can't find it at the moment to close this one as duplicate):

There was an idea suggesting to have recently entered strings to be listed below the address entry field. So one can select one of values entered before to start with.

Also we could start search with dialogue from which user left search before, preserving his selections in the upper level dialogues.

tryagain.

I accept everything that avoids enter Town at each start search :) But I prefer auto select Town by current GPS position if it is possible.

But I prefer auto select Town by current GPS position if it is possible.

What would you do if you're planning your visit to another town, done your search and then found that you have selected Л.Толстого street instead of А.Толстого one? Going to re-enter town name as you do it with current navit? Or prefer to re-select from your old queries?

I agree that adding current gps-guessed town to the list of suggestions would be even better. Though this will require some additional map processing.

The most convenient I have seen is "7 Ways" address search mode. Starting search I see last search request where address is divided in parts Country, Town, Street, Housenumber and optionally Crossroad. I can change any part and start new search. When I change any address part for new search, the minor parts are reset. For example, if I change Town, than Street and Housenumber are reset. If I change Street only, Housenumber is reset, but Town don't change. And I can tell program guess by current position for any part of address. Similar search mode is implemented in Navitel, but without guess by current position. Regarding Navit I think "Previous Destinations" could be a source for search request if it would contain all address parts, as I propose in http://trac.navit-project.org/ticket/1108 , or last search request at least.

  • Keywords search address added
  • Milestone set to version 0.6.0

As this is heavily related to usability, I schedule it for next major release 0.6 with focus on UX

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
