Description
It would be good usability to "cue" the user when a vocal announcement is about to be made. This would ensure that navit has the user's attention (for example, if the user was in a conversation, he can pause it for a few seconds).
So, first a beeping sound, then the speech synthesis instructions. I would be willing to provide such a sound (not necessarily a "beep" in the common sense of the term).

In fact, i'm not sure if it should really be done in navit : since navit uses an external program for the announcement, you could call a script which would play the file, then make the announcement

at the moment, this is what I need to do. But I'd like that to be part of navit as an "easy option" for non-gurus. It could be a simple checkbox. Also, it would provide everyone with a nice default sound, because not everyone knows where to find a decent announcement beep on the net and edit it in audacity to make it fit navit's use.

A good idea, but it doesn't fit into the scope right know. Maybe we should talk about that later again :)
<@cp15> As a simple solution it can be solved with command="aplay beep.wav ; espeak '%s'" in navit.xml
