Cursor display lags by about 2 seconds

Reported by: russ@phillipsuk.org Assigned to: somebody

Description

GTK GUI, follow set to off (so map only changes when get to edge), run on Asus EeePC 701 with 1GB RAM

The cursor appeared to be constantly 2 seconds behind the actual car position. This was particularly noticeable when driving at speed, although the cursor would "catch up" when stopped at traffic lights, etc.

It's important to note that if you use a 1Hz gps receiver (most of them) your position gets updated only once per second. There's almost nothing we can do about that (and it's especially painfull in small roundabouts with lots of exits). Was it more 1sec or 2sec? Can you reproduce the problem, and start navit + another gpsd client to see if the other gpsd client has the same lag?

We tried again, this time using the configuration option where the map constantly updates, instead of waiting for the vehicle to get to the edge.

The GPS appeared to update at a rate of once per second. Navit's map updates appeared to be up to a second behind that. This seemed to be quicker than before, and much more usable.

I can't see a way to close it, but yes, I'm happy for it to be closed.
