#394 closed enhancement/feature request (fixed)

Updating map position should happen earlier

Description

When using a vehicle configuration with <vehicle update="yes" ... /> the map position is only updated when the GPS unit is all the way at the map's edge. This makes navigation quite difficult, as it's impossible to see what's ahead.

It would be nice if the map would scroll earlier, so that the user can always see at least a bit of what is ahead. Perhaps using a configurable margin?

You might be interested in update="1" follow="1" : http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Configuring_Navit#The_vehicles_definitions

I use follow=5 on my FreeRunner? : it forces navit to recenter the view each 5 position updates.

'follow' is described as:

this will force the map to be drawn with the bearing you currently have, instead of having the north at the top

which is not what I mean. I'm perfectly happy with having north at the top of the map. I just don't want the cursor to move all the way to the edge before a map position update.

This was the follow attribute for the GUI tag, which was only used by the CEGUI gui (which is deprecated). I've removed the confusing part of the documentation, and you should be interested in the follow attribute of the vehicle tag: "follow: Make the map follow="n" the vehicle after "n" gps updates (where n=0 means never, or more precise, only when the vehicle leaves the map) "
