Support cached tiles

Description

The OSM database gets fuller and fuller in my area. Recently buildings and detailed landuse have been added, doubling the amount of data. This gets reflected into worse performance by Navit, as it has more data to dig through.

Drawing bitmap tiles takes a constant amount of time, no matter how much data is represented on those tiles. If Navit were to support a tile-based system it would make things a lot faster. It could render tiles on the fly, caching them on disk.

Support for Mapnik tiles would be awesome :)

As far as I know it's already supported to some extent. Some months before I successfully configured google maps tiles to display in navit. Please see: http://www.chemeris.ru/navit/index.html . I downloaded a python script that does downloading and caching the tiles. As I remember the google maps url format should be adjusted in the python script and the appropriate map entry should be set in navit.xml and it worked ok. If you prefer OSM tiles I guess it should not be that hard to adjust it to OSM url format. If you are still interested I can search my python script for you.

We currently support the caching of vector tiles. You can specify the amount of bytes in the very top <config> element

<config xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude" cache_size="15728640">
