#923 new defect/bug

osd cpu usage too high

Reported by: claudio bley Owned by: KaZeR
Priority: major Milestone: version 0.6.0
Component: core Version: git master
Severity: Keywords: performance, osd

I tried the Netbook 2 Layout and my CPU load went up immediately (CPU usage: 70% X11, 40% navit).

That's because of the 1 second polling interval and repainting (of the whole screen) even when nothing changed.

The attached patch fixes that problem, but it is only a quick hack (please bear with me).

Still, it would be much better to have some kind of event handling (like onChange) instead of polling every n second, IMHO.

What device are you using the layout on? For me on a netbook there's no apparent increase in CPU usage.

Also, though I'm not sure what your patch does (I'm not a dev), you can change the polling interval by changing the attribute

in the relevant OSD items.

  • Keywords performance osd added
  • Milestone set to version 0.5.1

Can anybody please give feedback on the patch and if the issue

  • bad OSD performance by to high refresh rate

is fixed?

Performance is IMHO very essential on embedded systems. So scheduled for hotfix
