#932 new enhancement/feature request

Signal when loosing fix (vibration, sound)

Reported by: ah be Owned by: KaZeR
Priority: minor Milestone: version 0.6.0
Component: core Version: git master
Severity: normal Keywords: gps, fix, notification
Cc:

Description

The current state:

  • 1 Start navit
  • 2 Define your route
  • 3 Wait for a fix and route directions get calcuated
  • 4 If a fix get's lost nothing happens and navit goes back to 3

The problem:

  • If you use navit for hiking and you might want to put your phone in your pocket with the display dimmed to enjoy the scenery or simply to save battery and your signal gets lost you will not know about it until you turn your phone back on and notice that the arrow is not moving anymore...

Possible enhancement:

  • New variable which makes navit make a sound or make the phone vibrate after a certain time the signal is lost, eg: gps-fix-lost-announce: 0/1 gps-fix-lost-annouce-delay: 0-Inf (time in seconds until one is noticed / eg if you go through a short tunnel you might not want to be notified)

  • Keywords gps fix notification added
  • Milestone set to version 0.6.0
  • Priority changed from major to minor

IMHO the signal lost detection is already there. No idea about the nofication system and how to bring both parts together.

As this doesn't seem to be related to code quality, I assign it to the 0.6 ajor release

  • Severity set to normal

Please have a look at http://trac.navit-project.org/ticket/1232, if this might be a viable solution.
