Description
Do not try to move the map to bogus locations coming from the gps on startup. Wait until the gps has a fix.
Effect now: map goes blank, later returns to my hometown. (blank confuses me)

What to do when you loose fix then? Getting stuck in the same place isn't good neither. Are you talking of waiting for the fix at startup?
AFAIK, if you get a position, it should be quite accurate, according to the PDOP. You want to have a configurable treshold of PDOP before using the gps datas?

I am talking about waiting for the fix on startup: Turn on IPAQ, log in, plug in GPS, start up navit. Navit then does get NMEA data but not a valid position. Invalid position gives blank screen?
When losing fix later keep showing the map, don't move to 0 0, nor blank the screen.

Please also see #201 about not logging the 0 0 positions.

Was this improved by the addition of CDF?
