- Keywords map download binfile menu added
- Milestone set to version 0.6.0
As in #817 I will schedule this for the next major release, as it's very confusing for endusers as they expect a ready to use solution or at least a wizard guiding them trough the final steps.

This is not unusual: you either do not have a map enabled, or you don't have a GPS fix yet.
Without a GPS fix Navit will automatically centre itself at the coordinates provided in the centre attribute of the navit tag of navit.xml. See line 31 of navit.xml and you'll find this:
So Navit will be centred at 48.08N 11.34 E, and if you don't have a map enabled for that area then you'll have a yellow screen (the default background). See http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Configuring_Navit#Starting_position for more information.
So, can you confirm:
1) You have a map enabled, and tell is where it's for. 2) You have a valid GPS lock, and it's being passed through to Navit properly.
On a side note, I'm using Ubuntu too and I can recommend you don't use the Navit packaged in the Software Centre as last time I tried they weren't very new. For alternatives see: http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Download_Navit#Ubuntu
